Death of Warren Coffey
“I wasn’t expecting yous....” The dark faun had appeared behind Aurora and Warren nearly as soon as they had stepped foot in her swamp, the sweet voice belying the monster beneath her skin cutting through the quiet of the swamp. Yes, it was hers, and no one could tell her any different....at least not without losing an eye...or their life. Either one was fair payment for such a transgression to Sel. And she had a collection of said body parts in a discarded mason jar to prove it.
She had known something was wrong, had felt it through her connection with the darker side of the circle that both she and Warren served. She slowly blinked once, her normally violet eyes taking on the black and grey hue of her other, more sinister form, allowing her to see the aura of life around the two of them. While Auroras blazed white hot....Warren’s....she gasped as she realized what had happened even before she saw the injuries to his torso.
“What happened?!” She was quickly filled in on how the Unseelie Court had tracked him down, despite all the precautions they had taken. An unearthly growl slipped from her chest, and that darker form of hers flashed into view before she gained control over herself once more, slipping under Warren’s other arm to help guide the two of them to the little island she called home. “We lays hims here,” she said with a nod to a patch of moss that she used for her own bed. As Aurora started to explain what had happened, she held up a hand. “Mhms. Poison. Our kind....I sees it in his veins.”
“Save him. Please. Whatever it takes.”
The faun hummed to herself as she wracked her fractured mind for a way to keep Warren on this side of the veil. She paced and chewed on her cheek, hooves silent on the soft ground. A couple of times she even tapped the heel of her hand against her temple with a growl. “No...that nots work...he’s humans...well...druid but still humans...no...WAIT!” She turned to the Winter fae that knelt beside the druid currently doing his best to cling to the living side of the veil. When she spoke, her voice was almost sing-song in tone. “I knows a way he might be saved...buts you’re not gonna likes it.”
"As long as it doesn't involve him becoming a vampire... do it."
At the mention of Warren being turned into a vampire, Sel burst into a fit of laughter. “Hims...vampire?! HAHAHAHA. Nonos. He would never allows it.” She leaned down to the now nearly unconscious form of the human male, tilting her head so her ear was canted towards him. “Hims say you know better than thats. No. I knows a way to makes him like us. It’s quite dangerous....and I think he knows the thing I needs to take hims to see. Mentioned it before. Buts. If he really wants to come back...to beats this...I thinks he can. Which is good...because I don’t wants to deal with taking hims to the other side.” She shivered at the thought of it, not liking the idea of doing that with the human she’d learned to call friend.
“Whatever it takes. Do it. Help him adjust if he makes it, and I. WILL. Be. Back. For. Him. The Unseelie want a queen? I’ll give them one.”
The tone with which her fellow fae spoke told her everything she needed to know, and slowly lines split her cheeks, revealing bone white, flesh rending teeth coated in black ichor, and that twisted visage flowed into a grin. “Awwws. You gets to have all the fun. Go. I’ll take care of hims. Promise. No favors needed.” And just like that, her face was back to its “normal”, softer features.
