A Horse Drive (2 of 3)
DJZ_2729-Edit: - Today I went to see a horse drive, an annual event put on by the Eaton Ranch (a 7,000 acre ranch), which is the oldest Dude ranch in Wyoming. The ranch is located about 15-20 miles west of the town of Sheridan. Just before winter, the ranch trucks the horses (anywhere from 100–200 horses) to their winter pasture which is east of Sheridan. Around the end of May, the horses are driven back through the town of Sheridan on 5th street, and then on to Soldier Creek road (as shown in this image), and take a left turn onto Beckton road where the ranch is located. The horses are moved along either at a Trot or a Canter, more likely a Trot. This drive is viewed by a number of people along the way.
This was my first time at this event. I was surprised to see the horses driven just off of the side of the road, with a few exceptions as you can see in this image. From videos I had seen, the horses were always on the road. After the horses had gotten past me, I saw the Cowboys had moved the horses back onto the road.
