Years after his collaboration with his fellow Vault Hunters on the hostile world of Pandora, the assassin-for-hire known only as "Zer0" found himself returning to his regular profession of "political killings and common hits." Zer0 is pickier than the average bounty hunter, however. His technological sophistication - combined with his skills with projectile and edged weapons - has since compelled him to only accept jobs to hunt for the exceptional few that he considers to be "worthy of his skills."
It was such a job that drew Zer0 to Earth, searching for a mysterious warrior with his own reputation for destroying his enemies in a multitude of silent interludes. Unbeknownst to this off-world assassin, his target was a man who has spent almost his entire adult life intertwining the fighting of hands, blades, and firearms into its own form of combative art. Zer0 was so confident in the capabilities of his helmet's built-in rangefinder that he figured that he wouldn't have to look that far to find his target. That confidence overruled a foundational rule of situational awareness: "keep your head on a swivel..."
