Mountain view

Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) this afternoon, Eryri national park, Gwynedd, Wales, UK

Yr Wyddfa is the highest mountain in Wales and England, standing at 1,085 metres (3,560 feet). It is the centrepiece of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park in North Wales and attracts over 600,000 visitors annually, making it one of the busiest mountains in the United Kingdom.

In 2022, the National Park Authority voted to prioritize the Welsh names Yr Wyddfa (for the mountain) and Eryri (for the region).

You can reach the top by foot via six main paths or by using the Snowdon Mountain Railway, which operates seasonally from Llanberis.

As of early January 2026, the mountain is in full winter condition with snow reported above 250m. Hikers currently require specialized equipment like crampons and ice axes.
