Crummock Water, Lake district, England

Crummock Water is the largest of three lakes that were born a single body of water. It serves as the dramatic, stoutly beautiful middle sibling between popular Buttermere and sleepy Loweswater Lakes. The surrounding land is largely flat and perfect for an ambling walk.

Crummock Water boasts a panorama that includes Grassmoor, Rannerdake Knotts and Red Pike. Mellbreak is situated to the right of the lake, with a shape like an upturned boat.

In the Victorian period, Crummock Water was part of the popular route from Keswick that took travellers down Derwentwater to Borrowdale, Honister Pass, Crummock Water, then back to Keswick. A main sight to see on the journey was Scale Force Waterfall, which is located on the western side of the lake. With a single drop of 170 feet, the falls are the highest in the Lake District.
