Storytime with Mermaids

Phoebe's quiet spot was a deserted beach, where she could avoid the people telling her everything she was doing was wrong, and use the sound of the waves as white noise while she wrote her novels.

 

She read online somewhere that one should read their work aloud to make sure it sounded realistic, and she was practicing this one morning when the first curious mermaid showed up.

 

The mermaid was fascinated, and insisted she continue reading aloud. Since she was armed and had sharp teeth, Phoebe did.

 

They keep an eye out for her now, eager to hear new tales, and Phoebe goes to the library twice a week, looking for short story anthologies to read aloud.

 

Her novel is at a standstill, and she's not sure what will happen if she runs out of material.
