Woodlouse

Woodlice are play a vital role in composting dead matter in gardens and woodland alike, as they munch through leaves and even dead wood.

They are land based crustaceans rather than insects, and there are thousands of different species in the world - even 30 plus in the UK. I think these are common rough woodlice

(Porcellio scaber) the commonest in the UK.
