Katy Perry Loses Trademark Battle to Designer Katie Perry

In a legal dispute with Australian fashion designer Katie Perry over her name and brand, pop diva Katy Perry prevailed. Katy Perry's legal team argued that the designer's bid to trademark her name in Australia would confuse customers and could harm the pop star's brand. The trademark could not be registered due to the likelihood of confusion, the Federal Court of Australia found in Katy Perry's favour.

The court disagreed with the designer, who goes by the name Katie Perry for her apparel brand, who said there was no proof of customer confusion. The jury member mentioned that Katy Perry is a "extremely well-known singer and songwriter" and that her followers would probably link the name with her rather than the fashion designer.

Katy Perry has had to defend her reputation in court before. In 2017, she prevailed in court against a group of nuns who sought to prevent the singer from purchasing a piece of property. Despite the nuns' claims that they had already sold the property to another buyer, a judge decided in Katy Perry's favour.

Since 2019, Katy Perry and Katie Perry have been engaged in a court dispute. The designer won't be allowed to register her name as a trademark in Australia as a result of the recent decision in the pop star's favour.
