Pictured: Mobile medical team following a successful Caesarian section
Celina Vessa scheduled Caesarian section was due to take place at the hospital when there was a sudden electricity outage. This is a frequent event and the UNFPA-supported mobile clinic is equipped and prepared to step in at the last minute and cope with emergencies. Following the birth, both the newborn and mother are safely transported to the nearest hospital for post-natal care.
With a great number of health facilities damaged or limited in operation as a result of insecurity in Cabo Delgado, the surgical mobile unit has become critical in providing emergency and life-saving obstetric care for conflict-affected pregnant women, mothers and their newborns, including C-sections.
