The Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, NY from above

This is another bridge that we flew over before landing at La Guardia on a late August morning. It is the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, more commonly known simply as the Whitestone Bridge, which, like the Thogs Neck Bridge in the previous photograph, also spans the East River separating Queen's on Long Island (far side) from the Bronx (near side). It is several years older than the Thogs Neck Bridge (1939 vs 1961). The Whitestone is a toll bridge – see the toll plaza at bottom right – that carries Interstate 678, one of the main access roads to La Guardia Airport.
