New York Evening Graphic Week End Edition December 12 1928 cover (Darwin Edit)
Dorothy Janis, 1928, on the cover of the Week End Edition of Bernarr Macfadden's New York Evening Graphic. Printed on slicker stock than the rest of the paper, the center insert also featured magazine-style printing in colored inks. Most covers featured flappers and starlets, and there's heavy doses of girls inside, too, as well as baby photos and other fun things to look at.
The magazine sections are very scarce one hundred years later, but they're doing far better than the newsprint. Neat time capsules of the jazz age. 20 years earlier you could barely show an ankle; the sex revolution of the 20s was something else, and some publishers were happy to push the envelope.
