War Criminals v02n01 (1962-06.Normandy Associates) cover (McCoy Edit)
Artist unknown, 1962.
A couple of likely possibilities are Syd Shores or Mel Crair. Artist identification is tricky, and I love to see it exercised, but the bar needs to be pretty high before a solid ID can be made, and this isn't quite my area. I checked Subtropic Bob's site and didn't really catch a post on this infamous title, but maybe I missed it. I always welcome artist ID discussion here on my Flickr. It's not surprising to note that many of the artists seem to uses aliases for their bylines in War Criminals.
McCoy's edit! You'll notice a DDT (Don't Download This!) tag on this one, McCoy's way of noting questionable materials. Scanners try to work without filter when it comes to our survey of popular culture, but I always got a chuckle when he'd send back an edit with a DDT tag. There were other disavowal tags, too, heh heh.
An interesting sweat, though. Sadomasochism is at play, certainly, but there's also an examination betwixt the far-fetched stories of the worst actors in WWII and a high number of illustrations from the usual suspects.
