Vortex 1970-04-29 Black Manifesto - High School Rising

A page from an edit-in-progress of a Lawrence, Kansas underground paper, I'm sticking up for now to show to a couple of peeps.

That's my High School. I spent a lot of time in the second floor of that building, as it housed the debate room. I'd heard of the fire/firebombing of the Kansas Union in 1970 but never about the events that preceded it. Wild.

For what it's worth, I took an African-American Studies class in high school (part of what these students were demanding) that just happened to be the worst of many excellent History classes I took there (not the fault of the curriculum, and the teacher was a sweet man, if not the most effective History teacher around).
