Particolare del pulpito del Duomo di Arezzo, capolavoro risalente agli anni Sessanta del Cinquecento. I marmi pregiati utilizzati per questo pulpito provengono dal Duomo Vecchio di Arezzo che si trovava fuori dalle mura della città, sull'attuale Colle del Pionta. Una cattedrale "fortificata" perché fu residenza dei vescovi aretini fino al XII secolo. Questa fu distrutta dai fiorentini per evitare che se ne potessero servire eventuali nemici di Arezzo in caso di assedio alla città.

The precious marbles used for this pulpit come from Arezzo's Duomo Vecchio, which stood outside the city walls on what is now the Pionta Hill. A 'fortified' cathedral because it was the residence of the bishops of Arezzo until the 12th century. The Duomo Vecchio was destroyed by the Florentines to prevent any enemies of Arezzo from using it in the event of a siege of the city.
