This photo was used as the Freer Vacation "title slide" because it shows railroad tracks and snow-capped mountains, which seemed to sum up our trip. This view is near Leadville, Colorado, along Highway 24, as we were heading south toward Alamosa. The rails are from Union Pacific's former Rio Grande "Tennessee Pass" line which was abandoned in 1996, I believe. Even though unused and "rail banked", the tracks are still in place and there have been several proposals for sale to a "new" operator very recently. The mountain in the scene may well be Mount Princeton.
