The owners of the plant have decided to retire the 410-megawatt generating unit on Sept. 20, 2028. While this is good news for the air around Craig, CO it is bad news for the employees at the plant and nearby mine. The station's decommissioning is expected to result in the closure of the nearby Trapper Mine, for which the plant is its sole customer.
