Echo Park
If the Echo Park dam would have been built where it was originally proposed back in the fifties much of what you see in this photo would be underwater. After much controversy, lobbying, fighting and politics it was decided to build a dam further south on the Colorado River in Glen Canyon.
Echo Park is visible in this photo on the upper left and contains the area where the Yampa River joins the Green River both of which are tributaries to the Colorado River. If Echo Park Dam would have been built much of the Yampa River Canyon and the Green River Canyon would have been flooded. Several parts of this area are in Dinosaur National Monument, which is undoubtedly why there is a Glen Canyon Dam and not an Echo Park Dam.
