Commemorating D-Day
80 years ago today we remember the enormous contributions and sacrifices made by close to 160,000 members of the Allied forces on D-Day, one of the largest and most complicated military operations in history.
CP 6644 is one of 5 SD70ACUs painted to honour the history and culture of the armed forces, wearing the camouflage colours applied to Royal Canadian Air Force "Spitfire" fighter planes flown at the Allied invasion of Normandy, France, on June 6, 1944 (hence the number 6644).
Here it's in charge of southbound 118 with 6644 looking sharp in near perfect summer morning light, crossing the Seguin River in picturesque Parry Sound and nearing the end of the directional running zone on CN's Bala Sub.
