In 1212 the crusade led by Simon de Montfort came to siege Saint-Marcel where the Occitan army had entrenched itself. It is after many skirmishes that Saint-Marcel is taken by the crusaders.
The population of Saint-Marcel and the surrounding area take refuge on the hill of Mordagne located nearby. To regulate this new home household, Raimon VII founded the city of Cordes in 1222.
Saint-Marcel gradually falls into oblivion.
