CHÂTEAU DE CASTELNAU-BRETENOUX

The castle stands at the end of a rocky plateau forming a spur thanks to the presence of a natural fault. Dominating the country known as the land of the four rivers, it was the seat of an important barony from the Carolingian aristocracy of Quercy - the Castelnau de Bretenoux family - already in possession of a fortified residence in the vicinity in the 11th century. During the 14th and 15th centuries, the castle adopted its final configuration.
