[ROLEPLAY] The half-pass.
The half pass.
The half pass is a version of travers, completed on a diagonal line instead of against the rail. The horse should be in either collected trot or collected canter for this movement and should bend around the inside leg of the rider. The horse must stay balanced through the movement, engaged, and with a lot of impulsion for best results.
So updates from me and my dressage training with absinthe here or as he's formally known 'shaken not stirred'. Last update I told you about how we started him off in the piaffe and now we are talking about him in the half pass.
When my coach talked me through this test in the first week I was not prepared for what was to come, this is a beast of a test with so much packed into what equates to about a 5-minute ride that I almost gave up. But sleep does a body good and I have been able to get myself back into the saddle after an unfortunate misstep in the western competition. And to be able to bounce back has been such a beautiful and healing experience, especially with all the other things going on this month, and trust me a post summarizing the briarwood event is coming!
We've been schooling this test, level 3 test 2 for anyone wondering, for the past month now and one of the hardest things about it is the canter half-pass from A to R and A to S respectively. I should say it's hard for me and not for Absinthe, who thinks this movement is the most engaging yet that we've been practicing, on the other hand am not as keen. Balance in the diagonal movements has been something I have struggled with since we started this journey but with good practice comes good results.
We'll be testing like we always do with toor equestrians, and I'm very excited for this next step in our journey together as a dressage team. I am truly blessed with such an athletic and empathetic horse to ride into every competition, and no matter what we're both getting treats after.
anyhow toodles, I'm off to go rest now before the test on Friday, wish us both luck!
