Grey-Headed Swamphen / Porphyrio poliocephalus / 灰頭紫水雞
The Grey-Headed Swamphen’s natural geographic range extends into Southern China, although it is considered a rare bird in Hong Kong. This particular individual was only the 9th time since 1988 that a Grey-Headed Swamphen has been sighted here.
Used to be considered a subspecies of the Purple Swamphen, but was elevated to full species status in 2015, as were all the other five subspecies of the Purple Swamphen.
