Bird eyes come in a dazzling array of colours, and scientists really don’t know why. Adult Night-Herons (as shown here) have bright red eyes, but juveniles have orange eyes instead.

The Black-Crowned Night Heron is a common bird found throughout Hong Kong near any open body of water, although numbers (based upon my own casual observation anyway) do seem to increase during winter, indicating perhaps that at least some of the local population is partially migratory.
