Endangered Gray Duo
CPKC 540 heads east with a CSX YN2 AC4400CW leading a KCS “Grey Ghost” AC4400CW. Interestingly enough, this was the second AC44 duo on an Eastbound freight as 181 had a KCSM Low Ditchlight AC44 duo and both leaders on these trains has K5LA air horns! Unfortunately for this duo, the Grey Ghost (4544) has a possibility of being repainted or rebuilt in the way future under CPKC and CSX 523 and the rest of its YN2 Brethren are going to be rebuilt in the coming years under a Wabtec(GE)-CSX agreement to rebuild 300 AC44s into CM44AC units replacing the current widecabs with newer more Gevo like widecabs along with a repaint to the YN3C “Website Logo” paint job effectively making the YN2 an endangered species that is soon to be extinct.
