Rose valley (720nm IR)

A good couple of weeks ago I made a huge focus blunder on the second IR safari this year (I did almost nothing last year 😲), which rendered all my panos of the day useless. No bueno!

But weirdly enough, this kicked off an unexpected infrared frenzy, sort of an attempt to get revenge, which in fact I did get, even on that particular location (it requires a number conditions to be in place, so that was not a given!).

But since the weather was really good, I started a whole bunch of IR safaris that were quite productive, and this is from the first one after my failure which had a bit of a kamikaze flavour, just straight up the mountain. 😤 It was the last pano of the day, mid afternoon, before returning to my car and as you can tell, perhaps, that's a really steep meadow but it turned out pretty decent I think, with the view and clouds, nice shadows, sweet flare and all. 😊

Sometimes I wonder, that it probably would not take much for us (humans) to see in infrared like that. That would be cool, don't you think? I mean the near IR spectrum is bordering and overlapping the visible range, perhaps just a few tweaks to our eyes and we could see a bit longer in wavelength.

And then the experience, "the colors" we now perceive are made up in our brains anyway, it's a social convention to some extend, physically out there is just the vast electromagnetic spectrum. Well essentially, everything we think and talk about, is an abstraction, an interpretation, and not an / the absolute thing. Anyway! If you could see in infrared, how would you wish your visual perception would be? Would you choose some fancy false-color perception, like my and the photos of others? Or some monochrome vision?

However, sorry for the philosophical digression, I hope you enjoy the panorama; take care, be kind. 💚

The source of this is a 360° pano consisting of 42 photos, with a mercator projection yielding 27203 x 15806px, ~430MP, which I did a 8:5 crop on with 16690 x 10431px, ~174,1MP.
