When the railway was built in 1847, there was no level crossing (or even Road) where Bow of Fife LC is now. Travellers either used Sweetholm LC on the Pitlessie to Collessie turnpike, or went on a road into Ballomill farm, went under this bridge, and then used the Peterhead Farm road to get back onto the road north to Bow of Fife.
