The photo that is shown depicts a volunteer group working with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to restore oyster habitats. Oysters are excellent at filtering pollutants from the water so aiding their population growth can provide more clean water. This photo is related to the sixth sustainable development goal which is clean water and sanitation. As the oyster populations are regulated and supported, the water in the Chesapeake Bay watershed will have more time to undergo filtration. The presence of oysters allows there to be a higher abundance of freshwater. The interactions that oysters have with the environment could be considered an adaptation to their environment. Oysters have developed the ability to thrive in areas with high concentrations of nutrients that are harmful to other organisms in the same area. The conditions that are present for oysters may not be suitable for other organisms but oysters have been able to utilize the resources that are available to them.
