Last catch of the day
754.026 leaves Reda in the warm, evening sun with dark, heavy clouds rolling in from the east. On the hook - 7 coaches of an Intercity train to Hel. The station, which the train had just left, is the last place of its journey which has overhead catenary, from this point onwards, the train continues with no wires above and only a revving engine.
In most tourist destinations in Poland, very little Intercity traffic happens in the middle of the day. Hel is of course no exception. In the very early morning a couple of night trains from southern Poland arrive here and then some others leave the little touristy town to reach their destinations all the way down south before evening.
In the late afternoon the reverse happens - daytime trains from southern Poland end their journey on the peninsula and their locomotives then take up night trains from Hel back to the mainland. Rinse and repeat.
This sort of planning sums up to a total of a whopping 3 locomotives from the Gdynia Grabówek depot doing daily service on the railway line to Hel.
