SWR’s Racing Ground

I was talking to some really nice trainspotters on Wednesday (15/11/23) in Potbridge who told me that the South Western Mainline was used as a racing track in the days of steam as the track was mostly straight around Basingstoke. I found this shot taken hours before and realised this was perfect for representing that in photography form in the modern era as I used a slow panning shutter speed to pan from above to really convey the energy and motion of the Class 444 passing below Old Potbridge Road. I took this photograph as part of my railway college photography project with the theme ‘the rush of the railway’. I hope you like it!

This week, I will post another photograph I took from this location (a light trail) which came out superb & I am excited to share it with you.

Thank you to Steve Poole who inspired me to visit this location through some of his Flickr photography work on his profile!
