Bobcat (Lynx rufus)

Bobcats are medium-sized carnivores in the cat family. There are about 2000 bobcats in the state of Minnesota currently. Other two wild feline species that roam in this northern state are a cougar and a lynx, although rare. All these cats are extremely shy of humans and are seldom seen. Bobcats pose no threat to humans and like this one, when I first noticed him rolling on his back on the gravel road, closely resemble an oversized housecat. My heart skipped a few beats in joy as I realized it was indeed a gorgeous, elusive bobcat and not someone's oversized housecat!

From Minnesota DNR page:

"The bobcat is a valuable furbearer and is both trapped and hunted--usually with hounds--for its fur."

Sad words. The only one who really needs his valuable fur is the bobcat himself. His life depends on it.
