The position of Vizier, once held by Ramses' grandfather, Ramses I, and his father, Seti I, was roughly equivalent to head of government. Vizier Paser oversaw affairs in Thebes on Ramses' behalf after the court moved north to Piramesse on the Nile Delta. Later, Ramses appointed him High Priest of Amun, the highest ranked religious figure after the pharaoh.
