The Temple Façades

The Temple Façades

Every morning, dawn light animates the façade of the Great Temple. Oriented to face the rising sun, rays illuminate the four colossal statues of Ramses and smaller sculptures of Nefertari; Isitnofret, his second Great Wife; and their children before flooding the temple interior with light.

Two colossi of Ramses flank a colossus of Nefertari on either side of the entrance to the smaller temple and only her children appear here in miniature. She wears the crown of Hathor with its horns, sun disc, and tall feathers.
