La bomba "Fat Man" en el remolque de transporte frente al Edificio de Ensamble nº2.
"Fat Man" era el nombre en clave de la bomba nuclear que fue detonada sobre la ciudad japonesa de Nagasaki por los Estados Unidos el 9 de agosto de 1945. La bomba se arrojó desde el bombardero B-29 Bockscar, pilotado por el Comandante Charles Sweeney.
A pesar de tener casi el doble de potencia que Little Boy lanzada en Hiroshima tres días antes, la extensión del daño fue menor debido a la topografía de Nagasaki. Sin embargo se estima que 40.000 personas murieron en este ataque y otras 25.000 resultaron heridas. Varios miles morirían después debido a heridas relacionadas, envenenamiento y a la radiación.
Fue construida por científicos e ingenieros en el Laboratorio de Los Álamos. El nombre Fat Man se refiere al diseño inicial de la bomba debido a su forma ancha y redonda.

"Fat Man was the code name for the atomic bomb that the United States detonated over the Japanese city of Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. The bomb was dropped from a B-29 Bockscar bomber piloted by Commander Charles Sweeney.
Although nearly twice as powerful as Little Boy, which had been dropped on Hiroshima three days earlier, Nagasaki's topography caused less damage. However, it is estimated that 40,000 people were killed and another 25,000 were injured in the attack. Several thousand would die later from related injuries, poisoning, and radiation.
It was built by scientists and engineers at Los Alamos Laboratory. The name Fat Man refers to the original design of the bomb because of its wide, round shape.
