The Glow Beneath the Snow

The golden sleigh came to a soft halt on the fresh fallen snow, leaving a shimmering trail behind it. Haru, wrapped in the crisp air that smelled of a new winter, hesitated before stepping down. Richard offered his hand without a word, as if the gesture were a language the two of them had spoken forever.

 

Around them, silver and white lanterns cast a gentle glow over the landscape, and the snowmen — tall, small, crooked, curious — seemed to watch with frozen smiles. Haru placed his hand in Richard’s, light as a snowflake. And as they stepped down together, the world seemed to hold its breath, as if the night itself wished to keep that moment for its own.
