The Impossible Home

"In a Victorian room, crowded with silent clocks, dark tapestries,

and lamps breathing dust,

the ogre tilts his head before a diorama of tiny houses.

He studies them with curiosity and a strange tenderness,

as one might watch another creature’s dream.

 

“What curious things humans make,” he murmurs,

“building worlds that fit upon a table.”

 

A dust-moth drifts above the miniature rooftops.

He smiles.
