In Spanish the word "camposanto" is used as a synonym for cemetery, and the curious thing is the origin. In past times (as sadly happens today in other areas) those who had money and paid were considered those who deserved to be closer to God, which is why the great patrons and the religious themselves had their eternal resting places near the altar, inside the church: The floors and walls were filled with the niches of the chosen ones. But the rest of the believers had to be buried, and spaces were set up next to the church that were blessed, to give all believers the opportunity to be resurrected. These lands were the graveyards. or "camposantos"
