Turtle bath

Sea turtles are highly migratory species and are frequently found in Spanish waters. Spain is home to five species of these fascinating creatures: the loggerhead sea turtle, the leatherback sea turtle, the green sea turtle, the hawksbill sea turtle and the olive ridley sea turtle. These species play a crucial role in marine ecosystems, but unfortunately, several of them are in danger of extinction. These turtles face various threats, such as bycatch, pollution, habitat loss, and climate change. Accidental capture in fishing nets and the destruction of their nesting areas have contributed to the decline of populations. Furthermore, ocean pollution and global warming directly affect their survival.

It is worth remembering that sea turtles play a vitally important role in marine ecosystems by regulating populations, maintaining habitats, distributing nutrients, conserving coral reefs and promoting biodiversity. Protecting and conserving these species is essential to ensure the health and balance of the oceans and their invaluable ecological value.
