David Larson says: Japanese trucks took off in New Zealand much earlier than the rest of the world, thanks to similar geography and physical proximity. This Nissan Diesel Sungreat exudes 60's style and is typical of the drawbar logging outfits popular in NZ.

David Larson says: In Japan, older trucks have green speed indicator lights on the cab roof to signal to other traffic how fast the truck is traveling. The practice is obsolete now but speed indicator lights became a hallmark of Japanese trucks and they've been emulated on custom trucks the world over.

David Larson says: Japan's emissions laws require that a progressive vehicle tax surpass a vehicle's value within 15 years. For that reason, Japan exports many classic vehicles to other countries, with one of their biggest customers for this market being New Zealand. The Mitsubishi flat is an export model, but the Prado is JDM surplus.

David Larson says: One of New Zealand's primary exports is wool, and special cattle trucks like this Nissan TW50 help move the sheep to the shears. In NZ a truck like this will commonly pull a drawbar trailer.
