Sunset over BC Rail

Cut from the L527 consist, CN 8021 and BCOL 4609, the last cowl unit in active service for CN, bask in the late afternoon sun. They were joined a few minute later, by M368 power, arriving next on track MD08. Of course, trailing unit on 368 consist was no other than BCOL 4654, being smoothly backed up in the capable hands of CN locomotive engineer A.M at the end of his run.

 

Think about the odds of watching two former BC Rail units, ended up almost side by side, simply by pure luck.

 

Watching the sun set on these two veterans from the abandoned "dispatch" tower vintage point at the diesel shop, closed quite good the last seven days of work with BCOL 4609. Plagued by PCS issues since the beginning, a recurrent hot engine alarm fault kept the unit in isolate mode for the majority of the week, giving train crews, trainmaster and diesel doc bad words about the former BC Rail unit.

 

Too bad nobody, except me, noticed the unique opportunity of riding and running that beast from an another era, for possibly the last time.
