London's first official Ramadan light diplsay were turned on last week by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who described London as "the first major European city to host a spectacular light display to mark Ramadan".
During this period, fasting is observed between dawn (Suhur) and nightfall (Iftar) and lasts for 29 or 30 days each year, with the dates varying each year due to the lunar calendar. It is a period of reflection, appreciation, empathy and charity.
The fully-recycalble aluminium frames containing 30,000 LED bulbs will be turned on every evening until late April.
