overlooked I
this is a series of three photographs featuring people who are hard on their luck or homeless in downtown boston. i am always very conflicted about documenting such folks as i don't want to exploit their condition or their suffering. and i certainly will never make light of them or use my camera as a weapon of ridicule. these are people deserving of dignity and respect, with lives as valuable as yours or mine.
the reason i took these photos is because most people (myself included) overlook individuals like these, intentionally or unintentionally. not seeing them allows us to absolve ourselves of our own feelings of guilt or responsibility for the world and societies which have failed them. and because, even on the worst days and in the darkest moment, we have tremendous bounty and good fortune by comparison.
