Yucca Valley California sunrise 2023 44
Can you imagine my good fortune? Every morning, if I don't sleep in, I see a view like this one through the windows of my place. Either way I win. I sleep in or I see this view.
A cool Marine Corps officer spoke with me about two weeks ago. "We're going to have to get you on [to the Twentynine Palms] Base," he ordered. "Isn't it a closed area?" I asked. He suddenly stopped talking. I'm a chicken when it comes to this stuff. You'd be surprised how quickly that offer might wind up on a law enforcement affidavit. The days when bases were opened to the public seem to be over. I don't shoot photos of the base, armor rolling along State Route 62, or attack aircraft flying low over my house.
The best place to shoot this photo would have been on Utah Trail just below the Joshua Tree National Park North Entrance station. But you can't shoot from there without getting the Marine Corps base in the photo. To get this photo, I had to drive about twenty miles west along State Route 62. I shot a few frames from Joshua Tree, Panorama Heights, and Yucca Valley. I'm not sure which location yielded this frame. The colors change as the sun rises but you get the idea.
There's no such thing as a 'bad day.'
