Coffee Shop 2023 6

These Bunn commercial drip coffee makers are present in restaurants across the United States. Depending on what kind of coffee you put in them, they can make pretty good coffee. Most local restaurants use Farmer Brothers or Boyd's coffee. Can you think of any others? I think the machines are fast at brewing coffee.

The Starbucks-style heated coffee urn, at right of frame, is full of heated maple syrup.

Shot this morning, this is an early experiment with a phone image. Many phone images I see are soft: anything with edges in the photo looks jagged and blurry. This was a first attempt at getting a sharp image from a cheap (non-Apple) phone. A bunch of adjustments were made. First, the lens distortion was corrected so the stainless steel shelf, and the grout lines in the tile, were roughly horizontal. Next the image was sharpened. Horsing with the color might have been a good idea. Since I've learned which images to throw away, almost half of what I shoot, my photos have gotten better. (Some people might say more should be thrown out...) This was the best of about 8 frames.

iPhones seem to have a better coupling between what the image maker intends and how the firmware and image processing contraptions render the image. I think it's easier to get the image you intend from an iPhone camera.

A buddy used to work for a government agency building stainless steel counters and cabinets like this one. He was such a talent! He'd start cutting in a shear and bending up marked sheets of steel in a brake. To me, it's an art form.

…caffeine is the most widely-used drug in the world. It's the second most widely traded commodity in the world: second only to oil — coffee beans are.
