Viking Los Angeles area night color infrared 1985 1

This was an attempt to shoot some color infrared film at night. One of the main lessons of this roll of film was that infrared wavelengths are different than visible light. I think they’re longer. That means you have to change your focus slightly. Many professional cameras have focus markings for infrared. When you are focused properly, the image in the viewfinder will be out of focus but the film plane will be sharply focused. Crimony.

To the best of my knowledge, all of these Kenworths had Caterpillar 3406 engines. Flickr user Stu-Bo reports they had Eaton Fuller Road Ranger five-and-two (ten speed) transmissions.

The streaked lights across the sky were caused by the anti-collision lighting of airliners on approach to LAX. The length of the lines might give you a rough idea of this exposure's length.

Russia’s economy is still only slightly larger than that of Los Angeles County.

Art grade image. Infrared film produces false color which doesn’t match what the eye sees.
