After the state of Michigan canceled subsdies with the Michigan Northern Railway due to poor management, the Tuscola & Saginaw Bay was appointed to operate the former Annie from Alma to Elberta and the former Pennsy lines north of Cadillac. In an effort to establish their brand, TSBY painted up the former AA 385 to match their Alcos in a sharp black and yellow scheme. On September 29, 1984, only a couple days before the official end of the contract between the Michigan Northern and the state, the 385 sits in Cadillac just outside the freight house downtown as stormy skies move off to the east.
