Morse Hillside Farm Sugarshack, Westford, VT
I stopped on a small Vermont backroad to photograph this sugar shack from the street. I was unaware that the farm owner had been watching me, but eventually he approached me on his ATV and told me to feel free to take photos from his property and to go anywhere I wanted. With one exception (a Quebec farmer unfortunately), every person I have encountered while photographing buildings or landscapes has been friendly and offered to let me walk around their property. In the process, they also tell me a little about the area and their work. They are pleased that someone else likes what they have done well enough to want to photograph it. One property owner in Peacham, Vermont has a sign at the end of their driveway welcoming photographers to take photos from their property. Sadly this man in Westford is winding down his syrup manufacturing. He will be selling his sap this year and not boiling it. I believe he will continue with his raspberry operation. It only occurred to me when I got home that I should have asked to buy some of his syrup. If I pass there again I will not forget. Vermont is a nice place with good people (at least all the people I have encountered)!
