IMPORTANT NOTICE
On April 10, 1977, rumors were rampant that the absolute semaphore signals on the old GN at Coon Creek were scheduled for removal so a mission to shoot them was in order. There was also a BIG surprise. On February 15, 1977, schedules of the Arrowhead were flipped to depart Minneapolis in the morning and return from the Twin Ports in the afternoon. A later check of the timetable revealed the run was also extended to Duluth, trains were renumbered 760 and 761, and different weekend departures were eliminated. The train now made connections with the Builder in Minneapolis for the west coast instead of Chicago. Power short Amtrak leased boiler equipped DMIR SD9's 129 & 130 for a few trips.
It is noteworthy that there is no less that THREE DOMES on the train!
