SERRE DI GRAEFER - GIARDINO INGLESE DELLA REGGIA DI CASERTA
Le Serre di Graefer sono situate nel cuore del Giardino Inglese della Reggia di Caserta.
Realizzate da John Andreas Graefer, il giardiniere che progettò il Giardino Inglese, furono costruite nel Settecento per ospitare la collezione di piante esotiche della regina Maria Carolina d’Austria. Le serre storiche sono composte da tre edifici in vetro e ferro battuto: la Serra Grande, la Serra Media e la Serra Piccola. Fin dalla loro origine le serre furono adibite allo studio delle specie esotiche e sconosciute. Graefer avviò un’attività di sperimentazione botanica con la realizzazione di serre fredde e calde per studiare e produrre piante da diffondere in tutto il Regno di Napoli e anche nel resto di Europa.
GRAEFER GREENHOUSES - ENGLISH GARDEN OF THE PALACE OF CASERTA
The Graefer Greenhouses are located in the heart of the English Garden of the Royal Palace of Caserta.
Created by John Andreas Graefer, the gardener who designed the English Garden, they were built in the eighteenth century to house the collection of exotic plants of Queen Maria Carolina of Austria. The historic greenhouses are made up of three glass and wrought iron buildings: the Large Greenhouse, the Medium Greenhouse and the Small Greenhouse. Since their origins, greenhouses have been used for the study of exotic and unknown species. Graefer started a botanical experimentation activity with the creation of cold and hot greenhouses to study and produce plants to spread throughout the Kingdom of Naples and also in the rest of Europe.
