Old Traditions
As Kevin chewed somewhat noisily, the Duke calmed the mostly innocent young woman, explaining that there was an old family tradition that involved "abducting" a new bride and keeping her "prisoner" until vows were exchanged in a secret ceremony. The tradition also involved wearing the head of a butchered mule as a boot, dancing in a circle 7 times while chanting the wedding vows backwards and then lighting a puppy on fire, but those were very old fashioned and ignored.
She was distracted by relief that no puppies would be lit aflame, as she quite liked puppies but for the rest, it seemed plausible she thought. After all, royalty weren't like decent, sane people.
