Arabic and Robusta coffee. Common features and differences. Which one do you like the most?

When we hear "100% Arabica”, it seems that they are telling us about an excellent coffee without knowing its qualities or if there are other alternatives such as robusta coffee or other lesser known libérica or excelsa.

However, both arabica and robusta coffee come from the same coffee plant, so we can guess that they have many things in common. In turn, the arabic coffee and the coffee canephora (scientific name of robusta) presents infinite variants, only the first one has more than 70.

But what are the differences between the two?

Arabica coffee is possibly best known for its antiquity, since its plant was discovered in the 7th century and it also has an advantage by offering more than 800 different aromas, each with its own nuances. With a robusta coffee bean a dark and strong coffee is achieved. But let's take a look at other aspects.

1. From a point of view of ripening and fruit production

At this point, there are several substantial differences:

- Arabica coffee is known as coffee from the Highlands, as it is grown mainly between 600 and 2,300 m above sea level, while robusta coffee grows extraordinarily between 300 and 600 meters above sea level. However, the fact of growing in such high areas, although it allows a slow ripening of the fruit, means that very few areas are conducive to it, hence its scarcity and therefore its high price.

- While the robusta coffee plant produces large quantities in each harvest.
